College of the Atlantic a Sierra Club Cool School
Scores 97 of 100, top score for Energy
In the September / October 2009 edition of Sierra magazine, delivered to members of the Sierra Club, College of the Atlantic ranks as the #5 "coolest school" in the United States.
Rated in 8 of "green" categories, by selected sustainability experts, CoA received 97 points of a possible 100 after calibration which includes bonus points for innovation and some old-fashioned grade inflation. Not that any one's complaining about a 97.
CoA, along with fellow Mainers Bates College, received a perfect 10 for their energy performance. An accompanying picture shows student writer Franklin Jacoby alongside the pellet boiler building designed (by C&H) to heat the college's Davis Residential Village, which opened last September.
