Energy Free, Homes for a Small Planet

Ann V. Edminster's book highlights C&H strategies

Just Published: Energy Free, Homes for a Small Planet, by Ann V. Edminster

While creating the syllabus for the Zero Energy Homes course at the Boston Architectural College, this firm searched extensively for potential "textbooks" on the subject.  Now, nearly a year later, the first such book we know of has been published.

Ann V. Edminster was the principal author of LEED for Homes, a consultant on the AIA COTE Top Ten Green project Z6 House, and is currently writing at Green Building Advisor.com.  She has just published Energy Free, a book detailing the strategies and techniques, goals and rationales, and the boundaries and politics of Zero Energy residential design.  Along the way, she also managed to take Zero Energy Homes: What, How, and If from us at the BAC.

Coldham & Hartman Architects made several contributions to the book, including Bruce's article from the Northeast Sun, Making Choices Instead of Paying Premiums (reprinted in entirety); prints of the air sealing drawings which helped propel the College of the Atlantic to its "world class results"; photos of the Moomaw Residence and Rocky Hill Cohousing (the latter by Scott Barrow).

The book is available at Chelsea Green Publishing.
