Tom moved from Boston in 1999 to join Bruce in a practice that focuses exclusively on the creation of high performance environmentally intelligent buildings and communities.
He specializes in construction trailer etiquette and making things happen, and is most often responsible for the preparation of contracts, schedules, construction documentation and site observation. Since early in his career, working on the jobsite and directly with the trades has been a particular skill. He strives to see the opportunities for humor while ensuring that tasks are completed and well done.
Prior to 1999, he had worked at DiMella Shaffer Associates in Boston for several years as a job captain. During that time he had the opportunity to work on a large assisted living project in Stamford from documentation to the end of construction, as well as to work closely with the principals at the early stages of numerous projects. He was responsible for the office drawing standards and worked with teams to design their drawing sets and cadd systems for the particular project.
After graduating from USC in 1995, he took a position with Cummings Properties in Woburn to establish a computer drawing system to document an old shoe factory being renovated for commercial tenants in Beverly, Massachusetts. The experience of working for a large owner/developer was useful in understanding the business aspects of architecture and development. The building and complex is now know as Cummings Center.
During college, he worked for Richard Keating at DMJM / Keating in Los Angeles as a staff model builder on projects throughout the world. He also worked as a consultant to a law firm, Thelen, Marrin, Johnson & Bridges, preparing construction analysis with the project engineer for litigation on a subway construction project. He began building a model for courtroom presentation, and was using computer drawings to prepare templates, when it became apparent that 3d imagery based on actual construction data could be provided.
He was raised primarily in Mystic, CT. His father was a submarine captain and his mother co-owned a residential construction company where Tom worked as a laborer and then carpenter during summers .
He lives in Pelham, MA with his wife, daughter, son and dog.
