With over a decade of experience growing food and creating sustainable structures and landscapes, Jesse eagerly applies these passions to the mission of C&H Architects.

Before coming to C&H, in early 2003 Jesse created and operated Small Farm Builder,
focused on mission-based building projects employing green building and sustainable agriculture principles (site planning, alternative energies, green innovations, etc.) His clients included nonprofit organizations, small farms, businesses, and individuals. Most recently, he was project manager and design team member for a United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certified housing co-op. He worked with many clients who were interested in a pedagogical building experience where the construction process involved the supervision and education of interns, volunteers, and crew on sustainability principles and green building techniques.

From 1998-2003, Jesse lived and worked at Sprout Creek Farm – a 200 acre, non-profit / educational, dairy, meat, and vegetable farm in the Hudson Valley of New York. As co-manager of the farm, he was responsible for a diverse eco-system of organic gardens, pasture, hayfields, woodlands, wetlands, ponds, floodplain, and of course Sprout Creek. During this time he helped oversee the creation of a new regional food source with state of the art milking and creamery facilities, new housing and community space employing green design and building practices, as well as new educational programs to meet the needs of a changing society.

After graduating from Vassar College where he studied rural sociology with a focus on the environment, he worked as an environmental educator and land steward in the Hudson Valley.

Jesse grew up in Watertown, MA where he spent his summers farming and doing building maintenance. He currently lives with his wife, Lisa, and two children in Amherst, MA.
